Plan International USA appoints Frank Manfredi as VP for humanitarian programs
As VP for humanitarian programs, Manfredi will lead a team of humanitarian experts who respond to crises with U.S. funding in the more than 80 countries where Plan operates. He will spearhead Plan USA’s humanitarian programming as the organization increases its focus and capacity in lifesaving emergency response, while honoring Plan’s organizational commitment to child protection in emergencies, assistance to refugee and other displaced populations, and addressing the rights and unique needs of girls in crises and conflicts.
“Plan was born in 1937 to support children impacted by the Spanish Civil War,” Plan International USA’s CEO and President Shanna Marzilli said. “Humanitarian assistance is part of our DNA. Frank’s keen knowledge of the needs of individuals and communities immediately impacted by a disaster and the support necessary to rebuild their lives is a critical element to fulfilling our mission.”
Prior to joining Plan International more than two decades ago, Manfredi began his career with the International Rescue Committee’s Joint Voluntary Agency in Thailand. He also was a Franklin Fellow with the U.S. State Department in 2008-2009, where he worked as the humanitarian assistance coordinator in the Office for the Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance. Throughout his career, Manfredi has supported disaster responses across Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the Americas through deployments and from Washington, D.C.
“People are at their most vulnerable immediately following a crisis,” Manfredi said. “Supporting the efforts of individuals and communities to safely rebuild their lives is an honor and will continue to be a pressing need as the world faces increasing climate-related disasters and conflict-driven displacement and emergencies.”
Globally, Plan International responded to 81 disasters in 2022, reaching more than 7 million girls and their communities through child protection services, education, food security, cash and voucher assistance, and sexual and reproductive health rights programming.
