Plan International USA applauds today’s Senate confirmation of the new U.S. Ambassador at Large for Global Women’s Issues, Dr. Geeta Rao Gupta. The Ambassador is the highest-ranking U.S. official dedicated to advancing global gender equality, and Dr. Gupta’s leadership will be welcomed by a wide range of partners and allies in the United States and globally. As a co-chair of the Big Ideas for Women and Girls coalition, Plan is especially pleased that the new Ambassador is a proven champion with a track record of promoting the equality, human rights, and empowerment of women and girls globally.
Dr. Gupta’s prior experience at the World Bank, UNICEF, the United Nations Foundation, ICRW, the Gates Foundation and elsewhere has provided her with excellent technical knowledge and a wide-ranging network to draw on in service of women and girls in all their diversity. Plan looks forward to the opportunity to move forward together on these critical objectives.
Plan would also like to recognize the accomplishments of the GWI Office under the leadership of Kat Fotovat, the senior official who has effectively filled the role of acting Ambassador since early in the Biden Administration. Kat’s enthusiasm and collaborative spirit has brightened many forums and events and her engagement with Plan’s Youth Advisory Board has been inspiring.
