Nilinde Lessons Learned

In Kenya, approximately 3.6 million children — almost one fifth of the total population under age 18 — are orphaned or considered vulnerable. It is estimated that 1.1 million, or 44%, of these children have been orphaned due to HIV, having lost either one or both parents to the disease. Ninety percent lack medical, psychological, material or social support. In response, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Kenya designed the Support to Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Nairobi and Coast Counties of Kenya (Nilinde) project.
