How has Plan changed your life?
“I like my school because I get to play with my friends and my teacher gives me fruit juice,” said Fadi back in 2018 when she was just five years old and had just started at the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Centre set up by Plan International inside Minawao refugee settlement in northern Cameroon.
Two years on, Fadi is seven years old and now attends the local primary school. Her time at the ECCD centre served as a turning point in her life. When she first arrived in the camp, she was suffering from the trauma of escaping from Boko Haram fighters after they had attacked her village in Nigeria’s Borno state, leaving her a withdrawn and unhappy little girl.
Today, Fadi’s mother is very happy with the changes in her life. “I thank Plan International for convincing me to send Fadi to school; her behaviour has greatly changed, and she is very serious about her education. When she is at home, she likes to teach the younger children the games and songs she learns from school.”
