Virtual YLA Program
In July 2020, Plan International USA successfully hosted its first virtual YLA.
In case the Covid-19 pandemic prevents in-person gatherings in 2021, we are prepared to deliver a virtual program. The virtual YLA will include many of the same workshops and activities as our in-person version. We have crafted a highly interactive and fun agenda that utilizes easy-to-use virtual platforms to ensure you have an engaging virtual experience.

At the virtual YLA you can expect:
- Interactive workshops on the most pressing global issues, like gender inequality and climate change.
- Panels with youth activists and influencers who are leading change. The 2020 YLA featured a panel with activists Deja Foxx, Winter Breanne and Xiye Bastida.
- Small-group interactive break-out sessions and “family groups” where you’ll have fun getting to know an intimate group of YLA participants.
- Project-design workshops where staff will teach you how to design a project from start to finish.
- Q&A sessions with YLA alumni to gather tips on how they jump-started successful projects after the YLA.
- Small-group mentoring session with Plan’s Youth Advisory Board members (all ages 18-22!)
Post-YLA there will be opportunities to engage with Plan’s youth advocacy activations both remotely and in person. Opportunities will include advocacy actions, in-district meetings with congressional representatives and corporate takeovers on International Day of the Girl. In many cases, YLA alumni will need to apply for these opportunities, which are contingent on your ability to travel and meet in-person.
