Want to be an activist? Nohelia can show you the steps

October 6, 2021

Nohelia is a young activist and leader in her Peruvian community. She’s been standing up for girls’ rights and tackling gender inequality since she was 5 years old.

Here are Nohelia’s top suggestions:

1. Work with partners. Having partners as an activist leader is important because they are the ones who will support you. These partners could be government officials, regional and local organizations, teachers or even your parents.

2. Take on responsibility early. Begin your activism by taking on the responsibility of something small. For example, you could campaign to become class president of your school. Actions like this will provide a leadership foundation around which you can build the rest of your activism.

3. Inspire others to be activists. Young people can achieve great things if they participate, remain active and stay aware. Lead by example and show others what can be achieved as an activist.
